Equipment required when transporting Koi fish

Before starting the process of packing and transporting koi, you need to prepare the necessary tools including:

  1.      Styrofoam containers.
  2.      The plastic bag must be wider than the length of the fish
  3.      Oxygen tank or aerator.
  4.      Lanyards, tape and rackets.
  5. Ice packs (Need to use when shipping in summer)

Some notes before transporting fish

  •     The first thing you need to keep in mind is to fasting fish about 2-3 days before shipping packaging so that their digestive system works normally, limiting the excretion of fish in plastic bags when transporting, easily infecting fish.
  • Next, you need to carefully check whether the bag containing the fish for transportation is leaking or not, avoiding water loss or lack of oxygen leading to fish death. This is essential for the long trip of the fish.
  •      An important note is that the water transporting Koi fish must be the water in the aquarium.

Safe fish packing and transportation procedures

  • Identify the fish you want to transport, gently scoop the fish and water into the plastic bag with a racket, then pump oxygen into the bag. Each bag, when closed, should leave about 40% of the remaining water volume to leave space to pump oxygen for the fish to breathe. The water level flooding the fish body is 1-1.5 times the height of the body of the fish.
  • Tie the fish bag tightly with rubber bands, preventing oxygen from escaping. It is recommended to use 2 -3 layers of bags to ensure that they do not get punctured during transportation. It is recommended to check carefully to confirm that the bag of fish has been tied up most securely.
  • Place the shipping bag in the Styrofoam container, and wrap the tape around the Styrofoam container to secure. A note when transporting fish in summer, when the weather is hot, you should put an extra ice bag on the pha under the bag to help the fish reduce heat during transportation, ensuring the best health of the fish,
  • Make sure the body of the Koi fish is covered with water, at least 90%.
